Just one poetry collection so far, so there's no real fight, only three readers agreeing that Silverstein's poems work because the child reading them has to do real work: catching the rhyme, surviving the monster, deciding if a joke is also sad.

EMILY YES It contains enough usable material to keep, enough broken pieces to inspect, and enough nonsense to make the inspection worth doing. YAEL YES I would recommend it for children, parents, and teachers, with the usual practical request that adults stop explaining every poem before the child has had time to laugh.
